The discovery of many and various artifacts in the excavations carried out by American and Canadian archaeologists in the Ancient City of Anemurium raised the need for a museum and Anamur Museum was established.

Before the establishment of the museum, some of the artifacts found in the excavations of the ancient city of Anemurium and Mamure Castle were exhibited in the Silifke Museum and some in the Alanya Museum.

With the opening of the Anamur Museum, the works in these museums were brought back, and some of the works in the closed Erdemli Museum began to be exhibited here.

The artifacts exhibited in the museum are mostly the artifacts unearthed from the Ancient City of Anemurium, the Ancient City of Kelenderis in Aydıncık District, and the Ancient City of Nagidos in Bozyazı District.

The most important of the works exhibited in the Anamur Museum is the mosaic arranged in the name of King Issah, which was unearthed from the floor of the church in the Necropolis of the Ancient City of Anemurium. In this mosaic, the leopard and capricorn patterns on both sides of the palm tree are striking.

Among the artifacts found in Anemurium, terracotta oil lamps, grave gifts, weighbridge weight in the form of Athena and bone objects from the Byzantine period attract attention.

Artifacts unearthed in the ancient city of Nagidos were generally excavated in tombs. The dead gifts placed in the tombs dating from the 4th and 3rd centuries BC are remarkable.

Most of the artifacts found in Kelenderis Ancient City were unearthed in rock tombs and vaulted grave excavations.

Anamur, which is one of the places where the nomadic culture is kept alive, of course, shows this richness in terms of ethnography. In particular, examples of rugs such as cigni düşük, beaded bougainvillea rugs, mirrored rugs, ala rugs, belonging to the nomadic period should be seen. Again, artifacts related to the coffee culture such as mortars and spoon holders, pottery cauldrons, swords, utensils and jewelry are remarkable.
